The Minecraft font: what it's called and how to write your name in it

The Minecraft logo font is called Minecraft Ten: wide block letters with a creeper-faced A. It is not the game's only one: the menus and chat use pixel lettering, Minecraft Dungeons has its own, and the enchanting table writes in the Standard Galactic Alphabet.

Typing in the font is not enough to look like the logo: the logo is not flat text, it is 3D letters with volume, bevels, a stone texture and a dark edge. So you will not download a font file here; you will build your text with the 3D models of the letters.

1. Type your text

Open the title generator and type your name, your channel's or your video's title. It fits up to three lines, and you can add more texts with their own style: one lying in front, like the logo's "JAVA EDITION", or a small one underneath. The logo fonts have no accents: accented letters come out without the mark.

   Open the title generator

2. Pick the font

Minecraft Ten for the logo look. Five Bold for a heavier title, Seven for something lighter, the Dungeons one for an adventure feel, and Minecraft SGA to have it come out in the enchanting table symbols.

3. Give it a texture

Cracked stone is the classic logo's, but there are over two hundred: gold, wood, ice, grass… You can also repeat any block in the game across the letters, or use a colour gradient with darkened bevels.

4. Place the camera

Straight on it looks like the official logo; slightly from below and to the side it gains depth and works better on a thumbnail. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom, or press X, Y or Z to look from an axis.

5. Download it

Download the transparent PNG and drop it on your thumbnail or banner: nothing to cut out. If you want it for a video, you can animate it letter by letter and watch the animation in the preview; the video download is part of Unlimited tools.

What keeps a title from looking like Minecraft's

Typing it in a flat font with a shadow. The logo has real volume: without bevels or depth it stays an imitation.

A texture that does not contrast with the background. On a very green thumbnail a grass title disappears; look for contrast.

Too much text. The logo works with one or two big words. For longer phrases, use the subtitle or split it into two lines.

Accents. The logo fonts do not have them, so they come out without the mark: pick words that read well without it.
